Nantong-based publishing giant Phoenix Publishing and Media Group opened a literature base at Hai'an High School in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, on Oct 26.

Students at the high school can read books and drink coffee while making cultural creations at the base, which was built by PPMG, the Jiangsu Writers Association, and other institutions.

Guan Xiangqun and Ding Jie, alumni of Hai'an High School, donated 2,000 books and 40 artworks to the base on the same day.

The Jiangsu Youth Literature Forum was also held, and scholars from Zhejiang University, Nanjing University and other universities were invited to discuss reading in the era of new media.

Founded in 1953, PPMG is a global leader in the mass publication industry and the second largest publisher of textbooks for primary and secondary schools in China.

In 2021, the group posted 15.475 billion yuan (about $2.29 billion) in operating revenue and 64.416 billion yuan in total assets.
