Nantong University singing teacher wins prize in intl competition

Zang Yunyang, a teacher at Nantong University in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, won second place in the first National Competition for Young Opera Singers with International Participation, which was held in Bulgaria from Oct 17 to 21.
Zang is a graduate of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music and a member of the Nantong Musicians Association. He has won numerous awards in both international and domestic competitions.

Nearly 50 opera singers from eight countries, including China, Austria, Poland, and Russia, participated in the competition.
The participants are required to sing opera arias in Bulgarian and the opera arias by Italian opera master Giuseppe Verdi.

The competition is meant to commemorate legendary baritone Stoyan Popov in Bulgaria, and judges for the competition include renowned singers, conductors, opera directors and art directors from opera houses in Europe.
