Yuan Yangqiumeng, a senior bonsai technician born in 1992 in Rugao, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has long wanted to make the potted landscape sector bigger and stronger.
"I've been engaged in potted landscapes for nearly 10 years," said Yuan, "Every potted landscape technician has a dream of industrializing potted landscapes to make them more attractive to consumers and revitalize the ancient art."
Yuan said that the potted landscape sector has experienced changes in recent years as the living standards of Chinese people continue to rise and that miniature potted landscapes have become popular due to their delicate appearance, reasonable price, and easy maintenance.

However, bonsai maintenance has certain requirements and it's not easy for a novice to maintain one, according to the gardening designer.
He noted that his survey shows that most bonsais bought by new bonsai enthusiasts will wither in a month due to watering issues.
Therefore, Yuan started considering how to automate the watering of bonsais.
After several failed attempts, his idea finally became a reality. Yuan also developed an applet on WeChat to control the watering of the bonsai.
The young bonsai technician said that he will formulate more intelligent watering plans for bonsai for different species and soil to make it easy for anyone to maintain a bonsai.
