Jiangsu Chengying New Material Co Ltd in Haimen district, Nantong, Jiangsu province, was recently included among the fourth batch of national "little giant" enterprises released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, local media reported on Oct 18.

"Little giant" enterprises are outstanding small and medium-sized enterprises boasting strong innovation capabilities, large market shares, core technologies and high product quality and profitability.

Chengying New Material is the world's fourth supplier to master the core technology of optical fiber coating.

The company has jointly built the Optical Fiber Coating Materials Research Laboratory with Nantong University and has cooperated with Shanghai Jiaotong University and Donghua University in production, teaching and research.

It has so far obtained 10 invention patents and 47 percent of its R&D team members have master's or doctor's degrees.

The company's revenue growth rate over the past two years was 79 percent.

The company's investment in R&D is considerable, with more than 20 million yuan ($2.76 million) invested in the last two years.

The company has developed coating materials for special optical fibers, such as low refractive index optical fiber coatings, high temperature resistant optical fibers and polarization maintaining optical fibers. In the future, it will continue to develop new materials and products used in fields such as optical communications, the Internet of Things and new energy.
