Five enterprises in Haimen district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, were recently included in the 4th batch of national "little giant" enterprises, according to the Haimen development and reform commission.

Haimen district is currently home to 75 "little giant" enterprises at the municipal level and above, including six at the national level and 17 at the provincial level.

"Little giant" enterprises are outstanding small and medium-sized enterprises with strong innovation capabilities, large market shares, core technologies and high product quality and profitability.

To be recognized as a "little giant" enterprise, operating income in the previous year must exceed 50 million yuan ($7.38 million), and total research and development expenses in the past two years must account for at least 6 percent of total revenue.
