【Dynamic Decade】Hai'an sees strong progress in high-quality development
Hai'an, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has made strong progress in high-quality development over the past decade.
In 2021, the city's GDP reached 134.3 billion yuan ($18.52 billion), a year-on-year increase of 9.1 percent.
The county has been focusing on the high-quality development of its agricultural industry over the past ten years.
The county currently has three national and 17 provincial leading agricultural enterprises. Every village there has achieved a collective income of over 500,000 yuan.
Rapid industrial development has also boosted the economy of Hai'an.
In 2021, the output value of 772 above-designated-size enterprises in the city reached 185.33 billion yuan.
In addition, the city's industrial taxable turnover in 2021 reached 237 billion yuan, ranking first in northern Jiangsu.
Due to efforts in industrial development, Hai'an became the only county-level city to make the first group of demonstration locatons for high-quality manufacturing in northern Jiangsu.
The county has also invested more than one billion yuan in improving healthcare infrastructure. In 2021, the coverage rate of basic healthcare insurance in the city was 98.7 percent, the highest in Nantong.
Hai'an has also been making efforts to strengthen education. In 2021, four new kindergartens and two new primary schools opened there.
The city's living environment has undergone remarkable changes in the past decade, and it has to date renovated 144 old residential communities and 20 villages.
To offer more recreational opportunities to residents, numerous 24-hour reading rooms and 24-hour self-service libraries have been established there over the past ten years.
