Tonzhou district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has been working hard to improve rural roads as part of its efforts to achieve rural revitalization.

Tongzhou has invested more than 1.2 billion yuan ($166.28 million) in the construction and upgrading of rural roads over the past decade, according to official statistics. The rural roads in the district have connected 14 towns (sub-districts) and 231 villages (communities).

Tongzhou has also opened 54 bus lines, making each village or community available by bus.

Thanks to the convenient transportation, Kaisha Island in Wujie town has witnessed a boom in tourism. In 2021, Kaisha Island received more than one million tourists, generating 36.38 million yuan in tourism revenue, which has lead to an uptick of 3,000 yuan in the per capita income.

By the end of 2021, Tongzhou had set up a total of 359 express service stations, including 60 logistics nodes, covering 10 towns and four sub-districts in the district.
