​Qianchang village benefits from growing lawns

Qianchang village in Rugao, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province is known as the "No 1 village of lawns in Jiangsu", as it grows more than 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of more than 10 varieties of lawns, according to local media reports.

In addition to the 3,000 mu of lawns grown in Qianchang village, growers have planted over 20,000 mu of lawns in surrounding towns, generating a total of over 30 million yuan ($4.43 million) in income annually.

The history of planting lawns in Qianchang village can be traced back to 1993, and over the years, lawns have become the main source of income for residents of Qianchang village, said Qian Aidong, Party chief of the village.

This year, the 72-year-old Mao Guihua has planted more than 1 mu of lawn and is expected to earn 10,000 yuan a year.

Wang Xiulan is an expert at shoveling lawns in Qianchang village. During peak season, she can shovel about 400 square meters of lawns a day, and her daily income can exceed 300 yuan.

Zhu Xiumei from Qianchang village can earn more than 200 yuan a day for tying up grass.

Qianchang village currently has about 70 logistics and transportation service teams and has developed more than 400 brokers to contact customers, provide after-sales services, and stabilize the market economy.
