The groundbreaking ceremony for construction on the main section of the Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang-Rugao Yangtze River Bridge was held on June 28 in Rugao, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province.

Once construction on the main section of the bridge is in full swing, the field technology test for the underground diaphragm wall and foundation reinforcement and the construction of cable tower pile foundation will be accelerated during the year.

Construction on the underground diaphragm wall, cable tower pile foundation and cushion cap is expected to be finished in 2023.

The bridge is located about 28 kilometers downstream of the Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge and about 16 km upstream of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge, connecting Suzhou, Taizhou and Nantong in Jiangsu province.

The bridge is expected to be finished within six years, costing an estimated 31.16 billion yuan ($4.64 billion). After the completion of the bridge, the western part of Nantong will be directly connected with Suzhou and Shanghai, making travel between the areas easier.
