It is time for green-skinned sugarcane to hit the market. Fengsheng village, Donghai town in the county-level city of Qidong in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, is renowned for its sugarcane, and there are around 6,666 square meters of green-skinned sugarcane in the village.

The growers have been busy harvesting, washing, cutting, and packaging the sugarcane and selling it online with the help of village officials.

In addition to its high sugar content which is easily absorbed by the human body, the green-skinned sugarcane also contains a large amount of iron, calcium, phosphorus, manganese, zinc and other important micronutrients, of which iron content is particularly high, reaching 9 milligrams per kilogram.

Compared with the usual purple-skinned sugarcane, the green-skinned variety grown in Qidong's Fengsheng village has a beautiful appearance and attractive color, tastes soft and is not overly sweet.

To help sugarcane growers expand their sales channels, the Party branch of Fengsheng village promoted the specialty and collected orders through online platforms such as WeChat and QQ. The sugarcane is harvested and packaged upon receiving the orders to ensure freshness and quality.

"Villagers used to sell sugarcane by riding bicycles into town and selling it on the street, wasting time and energy," said Xue Chenyang, Party secretary of Fengsheng village. "This year, we helped them customize their packages and hope to further expand marketing channels through xuexi.cn to help them increase their incomes."
