This year, Qidong has hosted a series of high-profile performances, increasing spending among tourists.
The concert at the Qidong Poly Grand Theatre on Nov 17 drew over 12,000 fans from across the country. "This event highlighted Qidong's immense market potential and boosted confidence in the industry," said Zhu Xianhui, marketing manager of the theatre, which has welcomed over 100,000 visitors this year—a 20 percent year-on-year increase.
Why are so many performances being held in Qidong? According to Cui Weigang, deputy director of the Qidong bureau of culture, radio, television, and tourism, the city's rapid economic growth has driven strong demand for cultural enrichment. In response, Qidong has introduced high-quality performances to meet this need.
Qidong's initiatives include an innovative model integrating live performances with tourism to boost spending. The city has explored options such as offering fans discounts at local attractions and hotels to stimulate tourism-related consumption.
Shen Chunjian, chairman of Qihong Cultural Tourism Group, noted that the concert on Nov 17 provided valuable experience for future events. Looking ahead, the group plans to focus on local highlights, such as "The First Ray of Sunshine" and "The Most Beautiful Coastline", while leveraging landmarks like Qitang Ancient Town and Lyusi Fishing Village to create performances that are unique to Qidong.
