Jiangsu Beihuan Biotechnology Co Ltd, located in Rugao, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, was the only city in Nantong to be designated a national female modern agricultural science and technology demonstration base. 

The demonstration base is expected to help enhance women's participation in the development of modern agriculture, encouraging them to start businesses based on science and technology and accelerating the construction of modern agriculture.

The base of Beihuan Biotechnology is engaged in the cultivation of dendrobium officinale. It has the only tissue culture formula in China allowing it to cultivate seedlings under natural light without using hormones. This type of seedling boasts strong disease resistance, a high survival rate and yield.

The base has employed 285 farmers from surrounding areas to take part in planting, among which female farmers account for 90 percent. The annual income of the households has increased to more than 20,000 yuan ($3,140).

In addition, the base employs more than 100 surplus labor forces, among which 95 percent are female. Their annual per capita income exceeds 40,000 yuan.
