A cultural gala featuring Haimen Shange, or Haimen Mountain Song, was staged at Linggong School, China's first modern performing arts school, in Nantong on Oct 15.

The performance consisted of 10 programs, including musical dramas and dance performances.

Haimen Shange, a national intangible cultural heritage item, is one of the cultural signatures of Haimen district, and is widely known in Haimen, Qidong, Tongzhou and Rudong. The current Haimen Shange Drama is a successful evolution of the ancient art.

The Haimen Shange Art Troupe, one of the organizers of the gala, was founded in 1958 and has been a major platform for the passing down and promotion of the music.

The troupe has created more than 50 plays and put up more than 300 performances in rural areas, campuses, and companies every year.
