New-generation IT industry booms in Haimen
The new-generation information and technology industry in Haimen district, Nantong, generated nearly 7 billion yuan ($1.07 billion) in taxable sales revenue in the first five months of this year, up 93 percent year-on-year, local media outlets reported.
As one of three major emerging industries in Haimen, the new-generation IT industry has taken the wind of rapid growth of "internet plus" and intelligent equipment and brought in a number of projects with huge capital and high-end technology to the district.
Since the beginning of this year, the Haimen-based Tongguang Group has successively won bids for the collective procurement of State Grid and China Southern Power Grid.
Its sales of products, including aircraft wires and electric optical cables, have ushered in a new peak of growth, according to Li Xianghua, deputy general manager of the company.
In addition to Tongguang Group, Haimen has nearly 100 IT companies that generate 20 million yuan and more in annual revenue. The growth rate of their combined output has exceeded 20 percent.
An industrial cluster centered on Tongguang Group, involving optical fibers and cables, communication wires, complete electronic equipment and complements, and electronic components has been formed as well.
In addition, the Jiangsu Cloud-Computing Center of Alibaba, with 6 billion yuan in investment, has been put into use, while another tech giant, Huawei, signed an agreement in April to set up a digital economy innovation center in Haimen.
Officials said that the district will utilize these projects to build an intelligent industrial park focusing on intelligent materials, electronics, and equipment.
It will also encourage leading companies to cultivate a new industrial chain for automatic driving, high-end semiconductor components, high-power LED chops, and more.
