With the approach of the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee recently released a list of 111 new national patriotism education demonstration bases.

The Nantong Museum, located in Chongchuan district, and the Zhang Jian Memorial Hall, located in Haimen district, were both included on the list. The city of Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province has been home to four such bases, with the other two being the Suzhong Seven Battles Seven Victories Museum and the China Audit Museum.

The Nantong Museum was founded in 1905 by Zhang Jian, a local industrial magnate and scholar. As the largest collector of cultural relics in Nantong, the museum serves as a platform for promoting excellent traditional culture and patriotism, as well as providing superior public cultural services.

In 1988, the Nantong Museum was put under State-level protection by the State Council, and in 1997, it was named a provincial patriotism education demonstration base in Jiangsu. In 2008, it was recognized as a national first-grade museum.
