The Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Jiangsu Development and Reform Commission jointly organized the selection of the 2021 provincial key tourism villages in order to implement the rural revitalization strategy and promote the high-quality development of rural tourism.

After being evaluated, 36 villages were awarded at the opening ceremony of the 12th Jiangsu Rural Tourism Festival, which opened in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu province, on June 9.

Nanyu village, located in Yangkou town, Rudong county, Nantong, was included on the list.

Nanyu village is home to the Xiaoyangkou Resort and has several scenic spots nearby, including the Guoqing Temple and the Matang Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall. It also has many specialties, such as Langshan Chicken, rice, edible red algae (porphyra yezoensis), mud snails, and clams.

It has been reported that the aforementioned rural tourism villages will be given priority access to policy support relating to project construction, brand building, market promotion, and credit. The most outstanding villages will also be given priority in the selection of national key rural tourism villages.

The city of Nantong is currently home to three key national rural tourism villages – Yisheng village in Haimen district, Pingyuanchi village in Rugao, and Sanyuan village in Rudong, as well as three key provincial rural tourism villages – Guzhuang community in Rugao, Shuangmeng village in Tongzhou district, and Lianxinggang village in Qidong.
