The eighth Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Hai'an series of events was held in the county-level city of Hai'an – administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – on June 5.

At the Hai'an High-tech Industrial Development Zone branch venue, 10 industry-university-research projects signed up to settle in the zone.

In recent years, the zone has vigorously implemented an innovation-driven development strategy. It has taken the initiative to serve universities and colleges, companies and financial institutions – and promoted the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, while moving to attract new investment and recruit more projects.

The Hai'an High-tech Industrial Development Zone has actively guided resident companies to strengthen their industry-university-research cooperation and carry out work and joint ventures with academia.

It has rolled out policies and services tailored to their needs, according to Wang Liangming, president of resident company Jiangsu Ryan Electrical Stock Co Ltd.

During the event, Ryan Electrical, signed a 10-million yuan ($1.56 million) intellectual property pledge financing project with the Hai'an branch of the Bank of China.

At present, the zone is home to 138 high-tech enterprises and nearly 100 scientific and technological small and medium-sized enterprises, with cutting-edge technologies in chinlon – a type of nylon – and in magnetic materials and special glasses.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the Hai'an High-tech Industrial Development Zone plans to undertake industry-university-research cooperation and help develop a slew of key industrial research institutes and platforms.

It aims to preside over the establishment of a modern industrial ecosystem – focusing on high-tech industries – through its existing platforms for innovation and entrepreneurship. These include its electronic information park, a Taiwan-business industrial park and the chinlon industrial park.
