The life health and biomedicines round of the sixth Qichuang Cup Entrepreneurship Competition wrapped up on May 29 in East China's Shanghai city.
The Qichuang Cup is a competition for startups that focuses on the fields of new materials, new energy, electronic information, semiconductor equipment and precision machinery.
The contest aims to attract more top-flight personnel and expertise from home and abroad to Qidong – a county-level city administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – and promote the high-quality development of the regional economy.
A total of 27 projects from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University and other leading institutes entered the event, covering a wide range in the life health sector – including pharmaceuticals research and development, diagnostic reagents and medical robots.
After an on-site roadshow and briefing, two projects involved in R&D and the industrialization of pluripotent stem cell products – and the industrial applications of surface plasmon resonance bio-nanochips – were given first prizes.
"We have visited Qidong several times and found the favorable geographical location and superior environment for innovation and starting up new businesses to be attractive," said Pan Shaokun, a research assistant at Huashan Hospital in Shanghai, who was a first prize winner.
"We hope to develop more R&D lines and production lines in the city and found our own team," Pan added.
