Chuanjiang town – located in the Tongzhou district of Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – is holding a series of reading activities for about 60,000 non-locals who plan to remain there during the Spring Festival holiday.
People are being advised by the authorities to spend this most important Chinese festival away from their hometowns, due to the country's strict containment of COVID-19.
During the break, town-level libraries, community book clubs and activity centers will be open for them to enjoy reading.
At an event held on Jan 28, student and parent representatives were invited to share books and read some classics at book clubs in the village where they live. Participants also put forward the proposal of spending the Spring Festival in Chuanjiang.
The town also hosted other activities to encourage children and parents to read together. At a DIY activity, more than 40 participants tried their hand at painting the tuanshan, or round fan.
Paperless reading has enriched their literary experiences and massive book resources are now just a scan away. People only need to scan the QR code to register for the Jiangsu Digital Farm Books House, or scan a different code to listen to audio books.
