A wild oriental white stork recently visited the Nantong Forest Safari Park in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, and built a nest above the park's bird area.
The wild oriental white stork is a rare bird species under China's first-level of State animal protection. According to the latest statistics by the China Wildlife Conservation Association, there are less than 10,000 wild oriental white storks left in the world.
Cao Jinglin, a worker at the park, said that a wild oriental white stork visited the park in December 2020 but quickly flew away. This stork has nested in the park for weeks and interacted with a female oriental white stork in the park every day.
The park's bird breeders have been observing and feeding the stork with fish regularly and ensuring that it is not disturbed.
