Dongsha Avenue – located on Kaisha Island in Tongzhou district of Nantong city – is in line to potentially receive national recognition.

The thoroughfare, in East China's Jiangsu province, has recently become a candidate in the selection of China's 10 most beautiful rural roads for 2020.

The 5-kilometer road runs across the island – recognized as one of the best-preserved islands on the Yangtze River – and boasts sweeping and verdant scenery on both sides.

Wujie town, which has jurisdiction over the road, has been awarded the title of "the most beautiful village in China", "ecological village in Jiangsu" and "the most charming village in Jiangsu".

The online voting for the selection was launched in January, with the official Weibo account of the Ministry of Transport displaying pictures of candidate roads and welcoming comments, "forwards" and "likes" from netizens.

A panel of experts will evaluate the roads in early June, while the online popularity of the roads will be taken into consideration for the final evaluation. The results are expected to be published in late June.
