Dongtang: a unique candy of Rugao

Dongtang, or Dong candy, is a traditional snack in Rugao, Nantong that boasts a history of more than 300 years.

It is named after its creator Dong Xiaowan, a concubine of Mao Pijiang, a renowned literati from a big family in Rugao during the late Ming (1368-1644) and early Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.
