Located at the southernmost tip of the urban area of Nantong, Junshan Mountain boasts the best-preserved natural landscape among the Five Mountains in the city.
Lush trees, clean waters and an abundant food supply make it a haven for wild birds. According to incomplete statistics, the mountain is home to more than 220 species of birds, including several State-protected species.
To help people learn more about wild birds, the administrative office of the area has built a bird observatory, which features a science education corridor and two telescopes on the southwestern zone of the mountain.
