The Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism recently approved 14 scenic areas across the province to become provincial industrial tourist resorts, including the Yisheng culture expo garden, the only site in Nantong to make the cut.
The garden, a key part of the Zhang Jian Cultural Tourist Site, was built at the site of the Yisheng Winery, which was founded in 1894 by Zhang Jian, a famous Chinese educator and businessman in Yisheng village, Haimen district.
The garden consists of a wine culture museum, an experience center, a cluster of century-old fermentation pits, and an exhibition hall for traditional rice wine brewing, which has been included in the provincial list of intangible cultural heritage items.
A traditional Chinese medicine herb plantation is currently under construction and is expected to become a tourist destination not only for sightseeing, but also for scientific and patriotic education.
