According to the Nantong Science and Technology Bureau, the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology has announced the list of the second batch of national characteristic industrial bases for 2020.

There are nine bases included on the list nationwide, one of which is Nantong Rudong polymer material characteristic industrial base. So far, Nantong has had 18 national characteristic industrial bases.

The new material industry is one of the strategic emerging industries identified by the nation and Jiangsu province for key development, and is also one of the seven key strategic emerging industries identified by Nantong.

In recent years, Rudong has focused on building an industrial cluster integrating upstream and downstream enterprises. Taking Rudong Yangkou Chemical Industry Park as the core, the county is emphasizing development and improvement of the industrial chain covering rubber, fiber, resin-based composite materials, adhesives, special engineering plastics and modification plastics.

It has built a polymer material science and technology industrial park and a demonstration base for new industrialization.

In 2019, the output value of industrial enterprises with annual revenue of more than 20 million yuan ($3.05 million) totaled 225 billion yuan. The output of the polymer material industry reached 23.1 billion yuan, accounting for 10.27 percent of the total.
