A special livestream was held in Qidong, a county-level city of Nantong, on Dec 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Hosted by Su Xiaolin, chairperson of the Qidong association of persons with disability, it sold commodities made or produced by the disabled in the city.

Guan Fei, chairman of the Qidong Association of the Blind, caught retinitis pigmentosa 22 years ago. With help from the Qidong Disabled Persons' Federation, Guan learned massage, obtained the senior masseur certificate and teacher qualification and opened his own massage parlor through unremitting efforts.

Since then, he helped dozens of local blind people start their own businesses or find jobs and achieve self-reliance.

"Currently there are more than 30 massage parlors operated by the blind. Having received systematic and professional trainings, these masseurs are highly skilled," Guan explained in the livestream. He hopes that more people will learn about, recognize and choose blind massage.

The beautiful hand-woven bags were made by the children from a special school in the city with guidance from teachers. Each bag is full of the children's heartfelt wishes.

"The goods sold in the livestream are selective," according to Su. "I hope more people will know that the disabled are striving to realize their dreams with their hands."

The first order came from a female netizen named Cheng Yi Xiao He within three minutes of the livestream's start. She was in Tibet when the livestream was broadcast. Because she doesn't often stay in Qidong and rarely participates in offline public welfare activities, she immediately placed an order to help the disabled.

"I am very happy to do something for the people in my hometown," the netizen said.
