Automatic check-in facilities with facial recognition technology were recently adopted at the Qidong coach station. Passengers can use their ID cards to check in after buying tickets.

The check-in gate machines are connected to the station's "smart passenger transport" ticket sales platform. When passengers try to pass the gates with ID cards, the facilities will identify the information and compare it with passengers' faces and ticket information. Only if the information of a passenger's face, ID card and ticket matches will the gate automatically open; a significantly more efficient system.

In the Qidong coach station, three channels – self-service ticket machine, window ticketing and a Bus Steward App – are available to passengers. "The employment of self-service ticket machines reduces the pressure of queuing up for tickets," a female traveler surnamed Chen said. "We can also conveniently check the routes and remaining seats on the machines."

Safety, intelligence and convenience have become key factors that passengers take into account when traveling since the COVID-19 outbreak. Upgraded smart transport services play a significant role in improving service quality and passenger experience, according to a station official.
