With the goal of constructing quality projects and creating a beautiful environment, Qidong, a county-level city of Nantong, in recent years has upgraded rural roads in four respects – construction, management, maintenance and ease of operations.
Zhiliangqiao village has benefitted from the project. In the past, Jianxin Road, which connects the village and the outside, could only be accessed by pickup trucks. After renovation and expansion, it is broader and can handle flat-bed trailers.
Zhiliangqiao village, located in the northwestern corner of Hezuo town, has transformed from an economically weak village that attracted little attention into a popular place in the eyes of outside growers.
"Jianxin Road is connected with the Wanghai highway, which provides favorable conditions for transport," Niu Jianhui, secretary of Zhiliangqiao village general Party branch, explained. "Because of this, many outside growers selected our village."
At present, 90 percent of the cultivated land in the village has been transferred. The originally idle land has become a "cornucopia".
As early as 2018, Qidong has won honorary titles for its efforts on improving rural roads. In 2019, the Lyusi Port town was recognized as a provincial demonstration town for its success in constructing, managing, maintaining and operating them.
