Tongzhou town strives to promote public reading habits
In recent years, Xiting town in Tongzhou district, Nantong has been focused on promoting public reading habits and improving the public's understanding and appreciation of science and culture through upgrading ways of reading in rural areas and launching featured reading activities.
"It is so convenient that I can listen to whatever I want by scanning the QR code with my phone," said Zhang Meixia, an elderly Communist Party of China member in Xiting town.
Due to old age and poor eyesight, Zhang has difficulty in reading books and newspapers. The audio book wall solves the difficulty by giving the old Party member easy access to reading through scanning the QR codes shown on the wall.
In addition to the audio book wall, the rural library also holds various activities for different groups of people – a reading activity for all the villagers, a reading essay collection activity for migrant workers, an activity to recommend quality books for students and a knowledge competition to display and promote reading culture.
