Reading on rise in Tongzhou district

Tongzhou district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province helped spread the joy of reading by actively participating in a national reading campaign.

The "2020 New Era Rural Reading Season" concluded in Chengdu, Sichuan province on Oct 16. It was hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Tongzhou district was among the national top 10 participants in the "I Love Reading for 100 Days" event.

The publicity department of the Tongzhou district Party committee and the district agriculture and rural affairs bureau attached great importance to the reading activity ever since it was launched in May.

Rural library volunteers entered communities, schools and enterprises to introduce the event and stimulate their reading enthusiasm.

More than 30,000 people in Tongzhou participated in activities related to "I Love Reading for 100 Days", shot videos with the theme of "Reading for a Happy Year", and read recommended publications.

Among them, a short video shot by a Dongchang villager in Shizong town won third prize in the "Reading for a Happy Year" event. Tongzhou writer Zhang Jianbin shared his latest work in the live broadcast at the event, attracting nearly 100,000 online viewers.

The farmhouse bookstore project is one of the five major projects culturally beneficial to people. Tongzhou has been upgrading farmhouse bookstores in recent years, using them to spread excellent rural culture and promote high-quality digital reading services for people throughout the district.
