A liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage and peak shaving project was launched in Yangkou Port, Rudong county, Nantong on Nov 10, marking a new force injected into the building of Rudong into the largest LNG clean energy base in China.
As a major infrastructure project in Jiangsu province, the project is designed to guarantee local emergency supply of natural gas. With investment valued at 5.2 billion yuan ($785 million) from Jiangsu Guoxin Liquefied Natural Gas Co Ltd, the first phase project will be built with three 200,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tanks and supporting facilities. With an annual handling capacity of 2.95 million tons of LNG, the first phase is scheduled to be completed in September 2023.
In recent years, Rudong county has vigorously developed the LNG industry. During the past decade, the PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Station has been at the forefront of the province in terms of total import and export volume.
PetroChina Jiangsu Liquefied Natural Gas Co Ltd has built four LNG storage tanks on the Sunshine Island, Yangkou Port, with an annual handling capacity of 6.5 million tons.
The third expansion project of Jiangsu LNG station is under intensive construction. Two 200,000-cu-m LNG storage tanks will be completed and put into use by June 2021, improving by 40 percent the overall storage capacity of Jiangsu station and expanding its handling capacity to more than 10 million tons, which will effectively guarantee stable supply and seasonal peak shaving of natural gas in the Yangtze River Delta region.
