In the Caihui winter peach production base, located in Shuangdun village in Tongzhou district, bags for picked peaches cover the branches of trees, attracting an endless stream of citizens eager to personally harvest the fruit.

"I have heard before that the peaches here are well grown," said Ms Wu, who is from another village in Tongzhou. "Today, I come here and found that the peaches do have a good appearances and taste."

"It is the second year that these trees have borne fruit," according to Ma Xuemei, the person in charge of the production base. "The yield per mu (about 666 square meters) reaches 1,000 kilograms, so according to the current market price of 30 yuan ($4.5) per kilogram the output value per mu is expected to reach 30,000 yuan."

The winter peach is famous for beautiful shape, crisp taste and high sweetness. As Ma explained, this is the ripening season of winter peaches. Because the picking period is coming to an end, many citizens are eager to visit the base to pick some fresh fruit and enjoy the harvest.

Ma plans to develop a new agricultural model at the base in the future that integrates planting, packaging, sales, self-service picking and leisure tourism.
