A foundation-laying ceremony for a new sewage treatment plant was held in Haimen Economic and Technological Development Zone in Nantong on Oct 18.

The project, which is located west of Binjiang Avenue, north of Qingdao Road and south of Dawei Road, covers an area of 9.3 hectares.

Upon completion, the plant is expected to treat 100,000 cubic meters of sewage daily, thus greatly improving the environment in the central and western areas of Haimen district.

Officials said the project is also part of the zone's efforts to enhance its environmental capacity for further industrial development.

At present, the local administration is pushing forward institutional reform and working to attract leading industries such as marine engineering and equipment, intelligent manufacturing, modern construction and new-generation information technology.
