More and more distanced from nature nowadays, people are increasingly eager to spend a holiday in an idyllic way.

There are a number of ecological farms in Tongzhou district, Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province that can bring people closer to nature. They also provide a great opportunity for children with no idea of where vegetables come from to find out.

The Happy Farm in Dongshe town, one place offering such services, was quite busy during the National Day holiday.

As a staffer squatted and spoke through a microphone, a group of children surrounding him listened attentively. They were at a sweet potato planting base where they learned everything about this kind of vegetable, picked sweet potato leaves and made little ornaments with vines.

Adult visitors, including the children's parents, also learned about production principles of organic farming. As part of the experience, they fed pigs and sheep, and were taught how to raise chickens.

Ms Shen who lives in Chongchuan district said her family had a great time at the farm. She hoped the experience can help her kids learn to cherish food.

Various other activities were organized, including picking sweet-scented osmanthus and making tofu.

The average number of daily visitors to Happy Farm presently surpasses 70, according to a manager.
