Intelligent energy storage system promoted in Rudong

The first concentrated small-scale industrial and commercial power storage project in Jiangsu province was officially put into operation in succession in Shuangdian, Xindian and Bencha towns in Rudong county, Nantong.

Reusing the power battery of retired electric vehicles, the system aims to explore the effect and operation management experience of energy storage in user-side peak-load shifting, renewable energy consumption and other aspects to help micro and small-sized enterprises reduce electricity costs and the pressures of production and operation.

"The project is conducive to reducing environmental pollution caused by retired electric vehicle batteries and realizing the recycling and efficient use of energy storage batteries," according to Dai Yuanyuan, a staff member of Rudong power supply branch of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co Ltd.

From 2019, the Rudong power supply branch has pioneered developing a small-scale energy storage project. Cooperating with Jiangsu Comprehensive Energy Service Co Ltd, Rudong branch selected a group of high-quality local enterprises with annual electricity consumption of over 200,000 kilowatt-hours as investment cooperation units for the project.

According to the enterprises' electricity price and load, the power supply company made a preliminary energy storage system plan in advance, and then introduces the plan, the current status of energy storage technologies, as well as the 24-hour operation and maintenance mode to the person in charge of each company through door-to-door visits and meetings, to eliminate any concerns.

"At the beginning of this year, Rudong power supply branch designed a new electricity scheme for us," Zhou Yang, a person in charge of Nantong Dadong Co Ltd, said. "Through the mode of 'distributed energy storage + intelligent operation', we can save 100,000 yuan ($14,632) in electrical costs throughout the year."

"In addition, the 24-hour intelligent monitoring system effectively reduces power system fault incidents, providing great convenience for the daily management of the enterprise," Zhou added.
