Kin Chang-Gang's former residence approved to start renovation
The renovation plan for Kin Chang-Gang's former residence was approved on June 13, Cultural and Natural Heritage Day. The residence, located in Chongchuan district, Nantong, is a cultural relic under municipal-level protection.
Kin Chang-Gang was a historian and patriotic poet from South Korea who was accomplished in ancient Chinese poetry and calligraphy. In 1905, he was invited by Zhang Jian, a renowned local industrialist and top scholar, to carry out editing work at a Nantong publishing house.
He decided to move into the residence in 1915 and named it "Jie Shu Ting", which means that he was living abroad and showed his affection to his homeland.
In order to protect historical and cultural sites and embody everlasting friendship between China and South Korea, the Kin Chang-Gang's former residence was approved to be turned into a memorial hall in July 2019.
The renovation work will start soon and is designed to become a demonstration project for cultural relic protection, integrating public education, exhibition and leisure.
