Chongchuan district, Nantong has seen a rapid economic recovery with the help of a series of nighttime activities.

The first series ended on May 21 and resulted in around 14.42 million yuan ($2.01 million) being spent on household appliances, commodities, catering, and automobiles. 

Stores selling cosmetics, food and jewelry in the Yaohan mall did livestreams on May 22, which resulted in a total of 700,000 yuan in sales revenue and 100,000 clicks.

One local resident surnamed Huang said that she used to spend her evenings at home, but now she prefers to go shopping and enjoy the nighttime scenery.

She added that the discounts offered during the aforementioned activities were enticing.

The nighttime activities also led to the creation of more jobs. Some residents who lost their jobs due to the novel coronavirus outbreak have now found new promising opportunities, as the nighttime economy develops rapidly.

According to one local surnamed Xu, in addition to light shows and food streets, more cultural products ought to be introduced, such as local specialties, time-honored food brands, cultural and creative products, and folk performances. She also said that bands and bars should be introduced to attract more young people.
