Construction started on Nantong Medical Center, the new branch of the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, in Tongzhou district, Nantong, Jiangsu province on May 8.

The center will be the only provincial high-level integrated medical center in central Jiangsu province and is expected to become a significant and influential medical center in the north of the Yangtze River Delta region and along the coastal economic belt.

It will cover a total area of 281 mu (18.73 hectare) and be divided into three phases. It will consist of an outpatient hall, inpatient halls holding 1,500 beds, a physical examination center, nursing units and other supporting buildings.

The fever clinic, inpatient halls and auxiliary medical service area will be connected by a skywalk. During serious epidemics, the building can serve as an independent isolation area to help with epidemic control and treatment.

Residents can easily get to the center, as it is located near metro line 2, the city's new airport, the East Railway Station and the Coastal Expressway.

The center is expected to provide patient-oriented services through the use of advanced medical technology, management and equipment.
