A drone normally used for plant protection was recently adopted to spray disinfectants in Huangke village in Hai'an, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, to help control the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The drone was provided by Hai'an Suming Family Farm to improve the efficiency of disinfection.

"It is hard for workers to carry sprayers that weigh over 10 kilograms every day," said Zhu Suming, the owner of the family farm. "As a member of the village, I should take on my responsibility and do what I can."

Villagers were informed of this disinfection work through WeChat and loudspeakers in advance and were asked to stay at home instead of watching outdoors.

After over 10 times take-offs and loadings, the drone completed the disinfection work on main roads, garbage collection spots and dwellings of residents returning from major areas of virus outbreaks.

The drone was also equipped with a loudspeaker to spread information on epidemic prevention. It is an efficient and effective way to publicize useful tips while spraying disinfectants.

To date, the disinfection work has covered 12 kilometers of roads, six checking stations and major areas of the village.
