A performance in which people will make fireworks out of molten iron will also be held in Nantong for the first time. This technique was officially recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage item in 2008 by the Ministry of Culture of China.
Another activity in which people will float lanterns on a river will be held on Feb 9 to pay tribute to ancestors and pray for a strong harvest in the upcoming year.
In addition, visitors will also be able to taste delicious snacks during the show, including fired dumplings, rice cakes, and more.
"Last year's lantern show received an enthusiastic response," one of the organizers said. "The show enriches people's lives, helps expand the influence of Tangzha town, and boosts local tourism."
The lantern show will start at 5 pm and end at 9 pm over a period of 18 days, and most areas of the show will be open to the public for free.
Organizers have set up a total of 11 parking lots in Tangzha town for people who want to watch the show.
