Haimen makes significant development progress in 2019

Haimen, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, achieved stable economic and social development in 2019, according to a work report shared at a government conference on Jan 5.

Over the past year, the city ranked high among the top 100 counties and county-level cities in China in terms of comprehensive strength, social development, business environment, and sci-tech innovation.

Its regional GDP was estimated to have reached 135 billion yuan ($19.44 billion) in 2019, up 6.5 percent year on year, while its public budget revenue reached 7.1 billion yuan and fixed-asset investment increased 6.5 percent.

Industrial sales revenue was valued at 121.2 billion yuan, up 15 percent year on year, while the sales revenue of the service industry totaled 59.7 billion yuan, up 24 percent.

The total output of the city's construction industry was valued at 195 billion yuan, and local construction companies won 36 national prizes throughout the year.

The city held more than 70 promotional events to attract investment, with 97 projects worth more than 93 billion yuan being signed.

A total of 105 projects receiving more than 100 million yuan in investment were launched in the city, including 25 receiving more than 1 billion yuan each in investment.

The city also created 33,000 jobs in 2019, and per capita disposable incomes of urban and rural residents grew 8.2 percent and 8.8 percent, respectively. 

The local government spent 8.89 billion yuan on life-improving projects, accounting for 78 percent of public budget expenditures, and a total of 20 landscaping projects were completed, adding a green area of 550,000 square meters.

The government also cracked down on 18 heavily polluting factories and told 422 businesses they needed to rectify their facilities before continuing to operate. The proportion of days with good air quality in the city reached 82.7 percent.
