The second section of a cell-culture production center owned by Jianshun Bio-Sciences (Haimen) Co has recently begun construction, according to an employee of the company.
The center is expected to begin operating by the end of 2020, and will be one of the world’s largest cell production centers in terms of production capacity. It will also feature high levels of automation.
"The high cost of procurement, unstable supply chain, and lack of technical support and services in the global market have compelled us to build such a production center," said Appachu Kodira, vice-president of Jianshuo Bio-Science, headquartered in Lanzhou, capital of Northwest China's Gansu province.
The second section of the center will cover an area of about 5.2 hectares and receive more than 100 million yuan ($14.34 million) in investment. It will focus on the demands of the global biomedicine market in 2025 and introduce more advanced technology into the production process.
"The bio-medicine industry is a key part of Haimen's '3+3' industrial system," said Huang Xia, a local official in charge of attracting investment.
She said that relevant government departments will improve services to ensure construction progresses smoothly.
