Chongchuan offers more subsidies to local seniors
Chongchuan district, Nantong, Jiangsu province recently issued a new policy to offer more financial support to local seniors.
The policy is expected to benefit more than 13,000 seniors throughout the district by providing them with around 15 million yuan ($2.14 million) in financial support.
Seniors from low-income families, who have no children, or who can't take care of themselves will be able to receive more financial subsidies from the local government than they previously could. The new policy also lowers the age at which seniors qualify for the financial support.
"The subsidy is a lifesaver for me, as I live alone," said one local senior.
Seniors who qualify for the financial support can apply by bringing the required materials to local residential committees. Family members can also file an application on behalf of seniors.
