A China-Ukraine third-generation semiconductor industrial technological research institute was launched at the second International Conference on the Third-generation Semiconductor and Intelligent Manufacture in Rugao, China on Oct 27.
The institute was co-founded by the National Academy of Sciences in Ukraine, the Rugao Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, and a local semiconductor company in Rugao, a county-level city in Nantong.
It will engage in research on how to apply third-generation semiconductor crystals in intelligent equipment manufacturing, chips, optoelectronic materials, laser crystal materials, and other functional crystal materials and equipment, officials said at the conference.
The conference, hosted by the Rugao government and the council of the China-Ukraine Forum on Science and Technology, attracted a number of experts from China, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Germany, as well as representatives from more than 100 semiconductor companies.
In recent years, the Rugao government has attached great importance to the development of the third-generation semiconductor industry, said Zhang Jianhua, Party secretary of Rugao.
Many companies, research institutes, and high-end workers and entrepreneurs have been attracted to the city, helping form a complete industrial chain involving equipment manufacturing, advanced sealing, and nanometer processing.
