A cultural gala featuring a number of Chinese operas was held in Chongchuan district, Nantong on Sept 17.

The event, hosted by the district's publicity department, tourism bureau, federation of literary and art circles and the city's theater association, was a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

A number of renowned artists performed classic pieces of Peking Opera, Yueju Opera, Kunqu Opera, and Nantong Opera.

Some people from Ukraine and Egypt also got a chance to learn about Peking Opera during the event.
