The sound of music filled the air during a singing competition that was held in Chongchuan district, Nantong, in eastern Jiangsu province, on May 21.

The activity was organized by the district's publicity department, literature and art federation, as well as the culture and tourism bureau, as part of this year's local cultural festival.

A total of 21 participants recommended by local communities took part in the competition.

Winners were honored as being a key part of the backbone of the district's cultural services and they were invited to perform at various cultural activities during the festival later this year.

The festival includes 10 themed activities, 20 cultural performances, five art lectures and 100  movie showings -- aiming to promote the development of the local cultural industry and enrich the lives of people.
