In recent years, Hai'an has been vigorously promoting the construction of a modern sericulture system and now has fully developed production processes for silkworms, mulberry trees, silkworm cocoons, and silk. It has already developed a number of products, including clothing and health and nutrition products, from silkworm breeding, mulberry tree planting, silk spinning, and silk weaving. The entire industrial chain, along with domestic and international trade, has turned sericulture into a pillar industry. The city is now capable of breeding 200,000 sheets of silkworms and producing 8,000 tons of high-quality silkworm cocoons annually, achieving a production value of nearly 10 billion yuan ($1.45 billion).
