Qidong, a county-level city in Nantong, Jiangsu province, has recently been designated a "deep breath city", according to local media reports.

A "deep breath city" is a city with a forest coverage rate of more than 50 percent and fresh air allowing for smog-free tourism.

In 2019, 2020 and 2021, Qidong's air quality ranked first among counties, cities and districts in the province.

In 2021, the proportion of days with good air quality in the city reached 93.2 percent, and the annual average of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was 23.2ug per cubic meter.

In 2021, the city built 15 atmospheric environment automatic monitoring stations to achieve full automatic monitoring of its ambient air quality.

In addition, to promote environmental protection, the city has held a public welfare clean beach action for the past four years, and more than 60 related activities have been held. Qidong has been awarded the title of "National Clean Beach Public Welfare Demonstration Site" by the China Ocean Development Foundation.
