The sixth Qidong Yuantuojiao Kitesurfing Tournament kicked off in the Golden Beach Scenic Area on Oct 17. Over 30 domestic kitesurfers gathered at the three-day competition.

Kitesurfing originated in Hawaii in 1998. With inflatable kites and foot surfboards, it combines various sports elements such as surfing, kite stunts, windsurfing, water skiing and skateboarding.

The Golden Beach scenic area in Yuantuojiao Resort with rare broad, flat and sandy shoals and a stable monsoon climate is recognized as a suitable place for kitesurfing in China.

During the competition, the contestants stepped one after another on surfboards and hand-held paragliders, doing challenging movements such as galloping, jumping, and spinning in the air.

The tournament has been held annually for six years. The sponsors aim to create a brand for the Golden Beach kitesurfing event, make kitesurfing into a new tourism highlight at Yuantuojiao Resort, and promote the branding, professionalization and internationalization of the event.
