Industry development event on ionic liquids held

Jiangsu Rudong Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone in Rudong county of Nantong, Jiangsu province, held a special event on the development of the ionic liquid industry, a type of frontier new material, on Aug 17.

Nearly 170 professors, experts, and representatives of entrepreneurs in related fields were invited to exchange ideas on the topic.

As the heart of Rudong's new materials industry system, the zone accounts for 60 percent of the county's total output value of new materials.

Experts elaborated on the enormous potential of ionic liquids in multiple key fields through presenting cases and cutting-edge research results.

"The ionic liquid production project operated by ‌Ldet (Jiangsu) New Materials‌ Technology began construction on Aug 18, marking an important milestone for the zone's ionic liquid industry as it moves from blueprint to reality," said Xu Jinbiao, deputy Party secretary of Rudong county.

Costing 600 million yuan ($83.55 million), the project can produce 29,800 metric tons of ionic liquids annually, as well as produce 150 tons of lithium chloride and 100 tons of lithium bromide as by-products annually on completion.

During the event, an innovation center established by the zone and Ldet (Jiangsu) New Materials‌ Technology was unveiled. In the future, the two parties will integrate their resources to boost the research and development of cutting-edge technology and the industrial application of ionic liquid new materials.
